gargantuan folly

By Monty Ringbolt, member for less than 1 year, on Aug 21, 2015

One of the bizarre requests life lock made when I signed up was to give them the passwords and open, full and unfettered access to all my bank accounts.I refused and tried to explain to them how dangerous a practice this was. Of the large number of employees I spoke to, none of them seemed to get that this was a supremely dumb idea. I told them I could arrange for the bank to give them access to just view the accounts but Lifelock insisted they had to have my passwords thereby giving them the ability to empty all my bank accounts if something were to go wrong. For example if Lifelock themselves were to get hacked, the hacker would the be able to empty the bank accounts of all Lifelock members. As this is public knowledge Lifelock has made themselves an incredibly juicy target for hackers now. This is all so unnecessary and avoidable. I think it is fair to say that if you join Lifelock and give them your bank account passwords you are now more vulnerable than if you had not joined Lifelock at all. I am a Lifelock member but have not given them my bank account passwords. I am therefore paying largely for a service that does does little for me. Untill Lifelock allows read only access to bank accounts the service is stupid and dangerous. I may cancel my membership because of this.
